Alexander Hollmon was a native of New Orleans but retired from the United States Army right here in the great state of Texas. He was a Vietnam Veteran, an amazing storyteller, a kind heart, and a lover of the blues. He was born during a special time. Alexander grew up during a period where Aaron Neville and the Neville Brothers played at his prom before they were famous. His cousin was Leonard Lee of Shirley and Lee known as the sweethearts of the blues. Leonard wrote the tune Let the Good Times Roll.
And by remembering Alexander's legacy we are going to do just that!!
Let me share a little poem that I wrote for my dad!
As He Was So Is He...
If I was a guitar, I'd want to be played by B.B. King, if I was an old R&B song I'd want to be sung by Joe Tex, if I was a house, I'd be 1364 St. Denis Street, if I were legs, I would be walking to New Orleans, if I were hands, I would be strong & firm, if I were Sunshine, it would still be there even when I'm gone, if I were a tear, I'd dry on my own, if I were a love song, I'd be sung just for you, if you need support, on my shoulders you can stand, if I were a book, oh the stories I could tell. But, I'm merely a man, not perfect, but kind, generous and warm, loving and sincere, a believer and a brave soldier through and through. I've gone up yonder, confident and strong, my memory will live on, do not forget, do not be sad and know like I know we shall meet again. The beat goes on! ~JG2019
I love you Dad, we've got dreams to remember!
Albert Nelson, known by his stage name Albert King, was an American guitarist and singer who is often regarded as one of the greatest and most influential blues guitarists of all time. He is perhaps best known for his popular and influential album Born Under a Bad Sign and its title track.
